4. Government, Establishments, Schools, And Other Organizations Are Good
Partners.
Sendai Senior Net Club was helped by many people. The Sendai Central
post office supplied the location, equipments, and telephone lines,
educational bureau put an
advertisement for our classes on its newsletter, and many establishmentssuch
as
NTT send instructors as a volunteer and Microsoft donated us CD-ROMs.
Without any of these, we wouldnft had the success we have today.
Senior Net Club instructed many classes sponsored by Community Center at
schools
for the citizens. At one school, a Senior Supporter and the schoolfs
student paired up to teach seniors. Seniors from the area had thought that
schools are children to learn, however, they begin to think otherwise. The
experience helped them to realize that school is a place for everyone to
learn, regardless of the age.
NTTT, NEC, Microsoft, and other companies provided laptop computers and
CD-ROMs
for the classes. With the money that was donated to us by many
establishments such as Telecommunication Foundation and New Media
Development
Association, Microsoft corporation, we purchased color printers used for
postcard making
classes. All of these have been helping us very much.
Sendaifs printing company, Hariu Printing Company, provided us the
technical support, and they agreed to be our office for contact and provide
mailing service, telephone service, accounting support and web-support.
Harui Printing compapy and Seniornet Club created the original text (\500-
\1000) and sell. We share the profit.
Some of the school officials feel that they just provided the location for
the classes and wished not to get involved and denied any responsibilities.
However, for example, as reported in gSocial Educationh October Edition,
at Tamazawa Elementary School, one teacher started to communicate with
Senior Net Club and that resulted in changing the attitude of that school
and the community. Our society changes when everyone becomes one, not just
doing their own part.
