5. Fact About The Class
5.1 Preparation For The Class
The day before the classes began, Nov. 9th, we installed "Hagaki
Studio" to the computers on the 3rd floor. This software was
donated to us by Microsoft. We had an agreement with the Microsoft
that we can use the software at the school while the classes
were going on, but to uninstall it when classes were over.
Things we found out during preparation...
4 laser printers are hooked up to 5 computers by LAN.
Some computersf hard drive were full and "Hagaki Studio" did
not run smoothly. We had to delete the files that were not
being used.
We asked the school to set up the 2 color printers so that
it is ready to print postcards by the time classes began.
Even at this stage, the teachers and members of PC committee
were very helpful and willing to listen to our demands. This
helped the success of the PC classes held at the school.
5.2How The Classes Went
We, Senior Net Club, gained a lot by teaching the fourth graders.
At first, we were not used to teaching younger people and
some students were left behind. WE only had time to finish
the address side of the postcard on day 1. Because we could
not work on the picture side of the card on day 1, we did
not have much time to work on the picture side of the postcard.
The color printer had broken down and we were not able to
print everyonefs postcards. We ended up saving them on a floppy
disk and had the teachers print them the next day.
>From this experience, we learned that whatever happens, we
should follow the schedule that we planned. By making the
classes a little easier, we were able to make everyonefs postcard
in 2 days for the Class 2 of the fourth grade.
The class 3, Class 1 of the fourth grade was a very energetic
class. Some students had heard from previous classes what
they are going to do and went ahead and did not follow directions.
Supporters were pushed around by the children and class did
not go as planned. But on day 2, students behaved well and
everything went smoothly. We finished 10 minutes earlier than
scheduled.
In the last class, Class 4 of the fourth grade, we increased
the number of Supporters to 10. There were 40 students in
the class so every Supporter looked after 4 students, 2 computers.
This plan was a success. Everything went as planned. Even
when the color printer shut down, a teacher had brought his
own printer, so we were able to print the postcards.
